POLICE are planning another crackdown on offending in the Hambleton area.

The district is holding its latest No Crime Day tomorrow, and officers will be out in force.

Extra patrols are being mounted and members of the public are urged to take part by reporting suspicious or anti-social activity.

Acting Inspector Peter Walker said: "We are going to be out across the district in numbers.

"Our aims are to drive down crime even lower and to demonstrate to residents that we are there for them. This is a day-long blitz involving a range of policing disciplines.

"The most important element, though, is the involvement of the community. We want to involve the energies of those living in Hambleton to be our extra eyes and ears."

Activities tomorrow will include:

l Neighbourhood policing team members and other police officers will carry out foot patrols in their areas.

l Other patrols will target potential hotspots, where crime or anti-social behaviour has been reported.

l The mobile community police office will be outside the NatWest Bank, in Thirsk Market Place, with staff available to give crime reduction advice.

l A licensing officer will visit licensed premises, especially those in areas where there has been trouble, advising landlords and discussing ways of reducing anti-social behaviour.

l Detectives will join traffic police on major routes to deter travelling criminals, and plan to carry out stop-checks on vehicles when appropriate.

l All Neighbourhood Watch members are asked to be on alert and report suspicious sightings.

l Partners including the fire service, Post Office and local authorities have been asked to look out for suspicious activity and report it straight away.
