RESIDENTS are looking forward to unveiling their new look community centre at a celebration next weekend.
More than £2,000 has been spent transforming the former Deaf Hill Miners' Welfare Hall, in Station Road, Trimdon Station, to reclaim its place at the heart of the community.
The new Trimdon Station Community Centre will open to the public on Saturday with a gala fun day.
It will be one of the first opportunities for people to see the work that has been done.
The building still has the sprung dance floor, for which it is best known, and there is now a band room, which is the headquarters of Trimdon Concert Brass Band, an IT suite, which has been re-equipped, a closed-circuit television system, a lift and toilet for disabled people, a kitchen, meeting room and library.
There is a games alley, short mat bowls, dart board and plans are in the pipeline for a youth pod for the village's youngsters.
There is also new street furniture, security fencing and a car park.
The fun day starts at 1.45pm with the centre opening to the public at 2pm.
