ASPIRING cricket stars will be brushing up their skills at a week-long course starting today.
Derwentside Leisure Services, in partnership with the Shotley Bridge Cricket Club, will hold the course at the club.
Leisure services sports development officer Emma Lloyd said: "The club is currently running a very successful junior section made up of children from more than 20 different local schools.
"Shotley Bridge Cricket Club has recently achieved Clubmark status from the English Cricket Board.
"We have more than 100 children booked on the coaching course next week."
Shotley Bridge is where England cricketer Paul Collingwood started his career.
His parents, David and Janet Collingwood, and older brother, Peter, are still involved in the running of the club.
Club junior development officer Hilary Nesbit said: "We have been overwhelmed by the response to the coaching course.
"Those taking part will be attending the Riverside on Friday, where Durham will be playing Leicestershire. The children will be putting on a demonstration at the match."
Also, starting tomorrow and running every Tuesday and Thursday for four weeks, is an FA football Level one course for females only.
The course, aimed at getting more women involved in coaching football, is taking place at Belle Vue Leisure Centre in Consett.
