BISHOP Auckland FC headed south last weekend to mark the 50th anniversary of one of their most memorable matches.
The Bishops travelled down to take on Rymans PremierLeagueside Hendon FC, who they faced in their 1955 FA Amateur Cup final win at Wembley.
On this occasion, Bishops lost 3-0 but that failed to detract from a good day out for the team's fans and players.
Chairman Terry Jackson said: "It was a brilliant day. The lads had been up since about 5.30 on the Friday morning and we got home late on Sunday but it was a great weekend."
Bishops performed well in the first-half, with new signing Dale Jardine impressing, but Hendon took the lead just before the interval and added two more in the second period.
The FA Amateur Cup was on display before the game. The Bishops won the trophy ten times, and on April 16, 1955, beat their southern opponents 2-0 in front of 100,000 spectators.
