A SIX-WEEK consultation exercise on a new plan that will shape all future developments in Hambleton gets under way next month.

Residents will be able to visit a series of surgeries and meetings to have their say on the proposals and question those behind them.

Hambleton District Council is in the first stages of drawing up the Local Development Framework. It will replace the existing local plan, as well as take in a range of other core plans and strategies for the district.

When completed, it will shape the district's development until 2021.

Most new development is expected to centre on Northallerton and Thirsk, which have good public transport links, with smaller scale developments planned for Bedale, Easingwold and Stokesley.

Surgeries will be held in all five market towns next month. Each surgery will be followed by a public meeting.

The surgeries will take place from 3pm to 6pm at Northallerton Town Hall on August 3, Bedale Hall on August 9, Stokesley Town Hall on August 16, the Galtres Centre, Easingwold on August 23 and Thirsk Town Hall on August 24. Public meetings will run from 7pm to 9pm in the same venues.
