RICHMONDSHIRE'S talented sporting youngsters have been honoured at an awards ceremony.

The annual Richmondshire Junior Sports Awards ceremony was held at Richmond Lower School.

Prizes were presented to the district's outstanding young sports people at the event, which was sponsored by Randall Orchard Construction Limited.

"The awards, presented in 15 categories, go some way towards recognising the effort and achievement of young people throughout the district, who enjoy, and in many cases, excel in their chosen sport," said chairman of Richmondshire Local Sports Council, Jim Fryer.

"An evening like this also gives us a chance to highlight the contribution made by the district's coaches in developing local sporting talent."

Golfer Jodi Ewart, 17, who represents Yorkshire and England, received the outstanding sportsperson of the year award.

She said: "I'm really grateful to those who nominated me and to Richmondshire Local Sports Council for the award."
