POLICE investigating an arson attack at a Durham restaurant have issued a description of a man they want to speak to about the incident.

At about 7.30pm on Tuesday, May 31 at Jumbos Restaurant, in North Road, a fire was started in a bin in the toilets.

A police spokesman said: "As a result of the fire it is estimated that about £15,000 of damage was caused to the premises.

"Police would like to speak to the male who was observed coming from the toilet area seconds before the alarm was activated."

He said the man had been having a meal in the restaurant with two other men.

All three left the premises as soon as the alarm was activated.

The suspect is white, slim and clean shaven with short dark hair. Anyone with information can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
