RESIDENTS, business people and workers in Newton Aycliffe are being invited to help shape the future of the town's major employment site.

Plans drawn up by Sedgefield Borough Business Service and Groundwork East Durham for Aycliffe Industrial Park are being exhibited today.

The study includes details of an initial phase of work, with cosmetic changes such as street lights, paving and landscaping and ideas for new signs and public art.

The team hopes to use feedback from the exhibition to produce a long-term template.

Future projects could include a grants scheme to help companies tidy their existing sites and the demolition of run-down buildings.

Paul Balmont, of Sedgefield Borough Business Service, said: "With around 9,000 people making their way to work on the park every day, it's clear that Aycliffe is thriving, and the goal is to ensure its further success.

"We need the help of businesses and people in the area to make sure this is realised, and that our designs are on the right lines."

The proposals and feedback forms are on display at Sedgefield Business Centre, Bede House, St. Cuthbert's Way, Aycliffe Industrial Park, from 12pm to 5pm today.
