SERVICES for people suffering from diabetes in a north Durham community have been praised by patients, according to a new study.
The report is based upon a survey carried out among diabetic patients by the Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) Forum for Durham and Chester-le-Street .
The response indicated that patients were happy with the service they received, although a significant number said they would welcome more information to help them become more involved in managing and coping with diabetes.
Many had high praise for their own individual care.
PPI forum member Pat Collins said: "More than 5,000 diabetic patients are registered with GP practices in the Durham and Chester-le-Street Primary Care Trust area.
"It is vital that they receive the care and support that they need, to both cope with being a diabetic and get the care and treatment that the condition demands.
"Overall, patients seemed satisfied with their care. However, they did raise issues that we have now fed back to the trust."
