THREE professional artists are drawing up ideas for artwork at the heart of a new-look town centre.

Bridget Jones, Dominic Fond and Walter Jack are developing ideas for a piece of public art that will feature in the second phase of the redevelopment of Newton Aycliffe town centre.

Their outline proposals for glasswork and sculpture will go on show at Greenfield School Community and Arts College, Newton Aycliffe, on Wednesday until August 5 for residents to comment on.

A final decision on their ideas for the development, which will include a library, health centre, Social Care and Health offices and a drop-in centre for elderly people, will be made in the autumn.

The artwork is being commissioned by Durham County Council's Newton Aycliffe Library with funding from Arts Council England, North-East.

To tie in with the exhibition, a series of workshops will be held for youngsters, who will work with local arts group Percy at Greenfield School, on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Youngsters will draw on the artists' exhibition for inspiration to create their own ideas, which will later be displayed in the junior section of the library when it opens.
