A SCHOOL celebrated 50 years on its current site this weekend.
Staff and students at Spennymoor School celebrated the site's golden anniversary with a fun day in the grounds on Saturday.
Attractions included stalls, face painting, a computer games challenge, pets corner, displays by community groups and primary schools, and a car boot sale.
There was also a reunion disco for former students on Saturday night at Spennymoor Leisure Centre.
The school first opened on April 22, 1912, as Spennymoor Higher Elementary School, in Durham Road, but moved to its current building in Whitworth Lane, in 1955, as a technical grammar school before becoming a comprehensive in the mid-1970s.
Two of its best known former pupils are Anne Wood, creator of the children's television show Teletubbies, and fashion designer Bruce Oldfield.
This summer's celebrations also mark the refurbishment of the school.
The work included a new foyer area and disabled toilets.
