DARLINGTON'S management duo David Hodgson and Mark Proctor will on Monday discuss crucial transfer moves which could shape next season's assault on League Two.

With a list of targets drawn up and talks with several players at an advanced stage, Hodgson and Proctor will next week decide which deals to pursue further.

Hodgson returns from holiday this weekend and has lined up several trialists for the forthcoming friendly programme, which kicks off at Harrogate Town on Thursday.

"The phone has been ringing non-stop from agents with players to offer us, which you expect at this stage," said Proctor.

"We have a number of targets we have spoken to and we will be holding a meeting on Monday morning to decide what steps to take next."

Hodgson will decide whether or not to take his interest in Swindon midfielder David Duke any further next week, while top of the agenda, the future of goalkeeper Sam Russell, will be discussed, with Proctor confident the 22-year-old will extend his stay at the Williamson Motors Stadium.

Russell is out of contract and yet to agree a new deal, but Proctor said: "Sam wants his future resolving and we're hopeful there will be some positive news over the next few days.

"I took Sam to one side and had a good chat with him while we were up in Scotland, which went very well.

"He wants everything sorting out and hopefully we can reach some sort of agreement before the end of the week."

Player-of-the-year Russell was an ever-present for Quakers last season after joining from hometown club Middlesbrough on a free transfer 12 months ago.

Stoke were one of several club's to have kept tabs on Russell, although their interest has now cooled after Dutch stopper Ed de Goey decided to extend his stay at the Britannia Stadium.

* Released Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Barry Roche has been linked with a move to the Williamson Motors Stadium.

* Darlington's home games against Notts County and Macclesfield have been brought forward 24 hours. To avoid a clash with England's games against Wales and Austria, supporters have voted in favour of bringing Quakers' League Two game against County forward to Friday, September 2 and the Macclesfield game to Friday, October 7. Both kick-off at 7.30pm.

* Striker Andy White has signed for Notts County on a one-year contract.

The 23-year-old joins the Magpies on a free transfer after being released by Crewe at the end of last season.

* Chester have completed the protracted signing of Mansfield defender David Artell for an undisclosed fee, and are getting ''closer and closer'' to agreeing a deal for Doncaster striker Gregg Blundell, according to boss Keith Curle.

* West Brom will make a bid for Stockport goalkeeper James Spencer over the weekend, according to County manager Chris Turner.
