SOME of the best wildlife pictures in the world have gone on display in Teesside.
The Out of this World exhibition at the Bellamy Pavilion in Redcar contains all 143 winning photographs from the 1999 BG Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition.
Subjects include a rookery of African penguins, an orang-utan, a killer whale and a ground squirrel.
The competition, organised by the BBC Wildlife Magazine and the Natural History Museum, is in its 16th year and is sponsored this year by energy group BG.
The winning photos will be on display at the pavilion, the home of the Tees Valley Wildlife Trust, until Sunday, May 28.
Education officer for the Tees Valley Wildlife Trust Steve Ashton said: "This competition is an ideal way to promote appreciation of the natural world.
"One of the objectives of the Wildlife Trust is to increase people's awareness of the diversity of plants and animals around them.
"These spectacular images do just that."
The exhibition, which opened on Easter Sunday, is open Tuesday to Friday, from 10am until 4pm. For weekend and bank holiday times call the trust on (01642) 759900
