A CLEVELAND MP has called for more cash for the oldest pensioners.
Dr Ashok Kumar has added his name to a growing list of MPs calling for extra support for the poorest of our elderly people, traditionally also those in greatest need.
Dr Kumar, member for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland, said: "Pensioners have put a lot into this country and we should be giving them a lot back.
"This government has already done a lot for senior citizens, but we could and should be doing more."
Nearly 30 MPs have so far given their backing to an early day motion calling for the basic state pension for those aged 80 and over to be up-rated in line with earnings.
