RSPCA officials are warning youngsters of the penalties they face following a series of animal shootings in Brotton.
A cat shot by an air rifle is the latest in a series of attacks on animals. Three cats have been shot this year.
Teesside RSPCA Inspector Kevin Foy said the penalty if people were caught shooting animals was £5,000 for each offence, or six months in jail.
