CLEVELAND schools will be at the heart of this year's Teesside Steel family gala in July.

Pupils will team up with workers from the Corus site to design and build floats that will take part in the gala procession.

Corus has agreed to sponsor schools again as last year's pioneering initiative to involve youngsters was such a success.

The schools building and designing the floats are: Bylands at Marske, Ormesby comprehensive, West Redcar school, Eston Park, Warsett in Brotton, Hall Garth, St David's, Acklam Grange and Sacred Heart in Redcar.

Gala organiser Mr David Adamson said: "The management committee and the schools taking part are excited about the project which was done for the first time last year.

"It will have a major community impact," he said.

The procession will start at 11am from Kirkleatham business park, go down Kirkleatham Lane, turn right into Corporation Road, right into West Dyke Road, past Redcar racecourse, along West Dyke Road, left into Larkswood Road, right at Plantation Road and into the gala site.

The gala is on Sunday, July 2, at the Kirkleatham showground, 11am-5.30pm.
