WAR veterans from all over the region are being invited to a ceremony marking one of Britain's most-famous campaigns.

The County Durham branch of the Dunkirk Veterans' Association has organised an anniversary ceremony at St Ann's Church, Market Place, Bishop Auckland, this evening.

Old soldiers who were involved in the evacuation in 1940 are being encouraged to attend the service, which starts at 6pm.

The service will begin with a hymn, followed by the laying up of the standard. The Last Post will also be sounded and, after a minute's silence, there will be another hymn.

After the playing of the National Anthem, light refreshments will be served in the church hall
