A SPORTS administrator who played a leading role in developing Wear Valley's recreation activities for 12 years has been given a top job with Sport England.
Judith Rasmussen, who managed the Spectrum Leisure Complex at Willington before spending seven years as the district council's assistant director of leisure and marketing, has taken over as regional director of Sport England North-East. She succeeds Dacre Dunlop, who is retiring after 29 years with the organisation formerly known as the Sports Council.
Mrs Rasmussen, a senior development officer with Sport England since 1997, said: "I feel the value of sport to the region has never been greater. Sport is now accepted for the health benefits it can provide and also the role it can play within regeneration and social inclusion."
