A relative of a former Willington FC player is trying to solve the mystery of his pre-war cup winner's medal.

Fenwick Collins has a medal that is engraved 'William Collins, Willington FC 1936'. The problem is there is no record of Willington winning anything that year.

Fenwick, who now lives at Stocksbridge, near Sheffield, would like to hear from anyone who knows about William and his career with Willington.

"William Collins lived in Willington, and it is possible some of our older supporters might remember him," said club secretary Bob Nichols.

"Pre-war records of the club are very sparse, so it is possible that Willington did win something in 1936, but we have no record of it," said Bob.
