A DURHAM parish is planning to celebrate the Millennium with a weekend of activities.

People in Shincliffe Village and High Shincliffe will mark the Year 2000 with events including a fair and a party on Saturday and Sunday, July 15 and 16.

The fair will be held in the grounds Shincliffe Primary School, High Shincliffe, on the Saturday between 1.30pm and 5pm. Attractions include a treasure trail, face painting, a bouncy castle and the Houghton Kepier Youth Band. Admission is £1 for adults, free for children.

In the evening Shincliffe Millennium Party will be held from 7.30pm to 11pm in a marquee in the school grounds when music will be provided by Trimdon Ceilidh Band. Tickets cost £8, including buffet, and are available by ringing (0191) 384 2766.

On Sunday there will be an exhibition by Shincliffe Local History Society between 10am and 3pm in Shincliffe Church Hall, Shincliffe Village.

A walk through the parish will be held between 1 and 3.30pm, starting at the Church Hall and finishing in the school grounds.

From 3.30pm teas will be served in the marquee and a Songs of Praise will be held at 4.30pm.
