PUPILS and teachers at a village school are celebrating after receiving a glowing report.

Oftsed, the Office for Standards in Education, praised Sadberge Church of England School for 'creating a climate for learning which supports good progress in pupils.'

Pupils were described as being well-behaved in and out of lessons and the inspectors said teaching is never less than satisfactory.

In the special report that examined the spiritual ethos of church schools, Sadberge also emerged with credit. The school's active links with the parish church came in for praise and the dedication of the staff to their pupils' welfare was also noted.

Sadberge's governors now have 40 days to draw up an action plan to respond to areas that the report identifies as in need of improvement.

These include the need for teachers to be more effective in evaluating the mass data that is collected about each child so that more individually challenging targets can be set. Also identified is the need for increased opportunities of pupils to experience traditions other than their own.

Head teacher Hillary Barren said: "I am delighted with the report, particularly because it reflects so well on the children and on the dedication and expertise of all our staff."
