HENRY the garden gnome is safe back home after being snatched by a gang of jet-setting gnomenappers.

But there is still no clue as to who grabbed him from the doorstep of a the Farrers Arms pub at Crook.

Since the gnomenap five months ago Henry has travelled far and wide. But he still managed to send postcards back to landlady Shirley Craig.

"I was gobsmacked when Henry just turned up at a charity barbecue we were staging. A taxi pulled up and the driver handed me a big box," said Shirley. Inside was Henry, plus a German wife called Helga he had acquired on his travels and four baby gnomes.

Shirley said: "It's so good to have him back, but we still have no clue as to who's been responsible for all this. It must be more than one person because of the postcards we have had from different parts of the world."

One card from Germany read: "Was planning on coming gnome, but got diverted to Munich."

Shirley said: "It's been a lot of fun. I must have heard every gnome joke that's around. I'm dying to find out who was behind it all"
