RECORD-breaking lorry driver Bob Curry has revealed what keeps him trucking at the grand old age of 80 - a traditional fry-up every morning.

Bob, of Hylton Lane, Sunderland, has been confirmed by Guinness World Record bosses as the oldest trucker in the world.

The father-of-five, who has to sit a medical each year to retain his HGV class one licence, reckons a daily cooked English breakfast - a favourite of many lorry drivers - has kept him on the road.

He said: "You have got to have a good start to the day and I have bacon, egg and mushrooms - and I'm as fit as a fiddle."

Bob retired four years ago, but still gets behind the wheel once a week because he "likes to keep his hand in".

He started driving vans in 1946, when he set up his removal firm following service in the Royal Navy.

And after travelling an estimated five million miles in more than 50 years, he said that, in his experience, women drivers were the best. "They are marvellous. They take more care," he said.

Bob, who has received a certificate to mark his world record, said: "I'm as proud as punch."

His son Ken, 40, who runs the Curry Magogs firm, said: "He's an amazing character."
