Costcutter York and

District League

Sheriff Hutton Bridge had a disastrous day in the Premier Division when they returned from Thirsk without a point after being dismissed for a paltry 68. The Bridge's batting line-up was in tatters after one-time Bridge man Barry Petty claimed four for 25 and Andrew Hawke three for seven. Aussie Lincoln McCraw ensured a ten-wicket win for Thirsk with an unbeaten 42.

Clifton Aliance reduced Easingwold's lead to 35 points when they had a six-wicket victory over Woodhouse Grande while Easingwold had a frustrating draw at Whitkirk where the home side had no difficulty in surviving in a game reduced to 31 overs by the weather.

Ripon lost a little ground in their bid to catch Dunnington in Division One when they were held to a draw at Wilberfoss despite gaining maximum batting points.

Neil Jackson top scored for the Citizens with 56 while his supporting cast of Gary Blackburn 47m, Aussie Tim Collins 32 and Chris Waters 29 all contributed to a total of 200 for eight which was a good performance in view of the five for 56 claimed by spinner Andy Gray.

Wilberfoss were never in serious danger of defeat even though Stewart Hawley took three for 39 and the East Riding side were able to make a comfortable draw at 160 for six.

Lowley Sessay gained a respectable draw when entertaining promotion seeking York with stalwart John Flintoff making 53 as his side closed at 152 for six after York had set a target of 186 for nine.

York's batting owned much to their southern signings with their recent recruit from Bath, David Catlow, making 32 and former Brighton and Hove player Ed Senneck making 29. Sessay's Richard Wentworth claimed four for 15 and his colleague Darren Atkinson three for 23. York junior Tim Pringle then responded with three for 22 to jeopardise Sessay's reply.

Crayke boosted their survival hopes and at the same time, virtually ended Duncombe Park's lingering promotion challenge when they recorded a six-wicket win after dismissing Park for 99 in 41.3 overs. Travis Friend made 27 for the Helmsley side but his team mates fared badly as Mick Hutchinson took six for 47. Andy Dawson then hit 37 as Crayke harvested the points.

Once again the elements inflicted casualties with the Second Division game at Scarborough being abandoned without a ball being bowled and five other games being abandoned in mid-action.

Collis King, who ,earlier in the week had played for the West Indies in the Malcolm Marshall Memorial benefit game, was again in imperious form for Stillington as he hit another big 100 (12) against Osbaldwick in Division Two.
