DBS North Yorkshire and South Durham League

Thornaby celebrated winning the Darlington Building Society NYSD Junior League Cup on Monday night when they hosted neighbours Middlesbrough and had 27 runs to spare.

Batting first, Thornaby realised 110 for four from their 20 overs and Chris Metcalfe led the way, hitting a half-century.

Middlesbrough slumped to 83 for six at the end of their 20 overs.

The majority of cup competitions in the league have now been completed and the winners are as follows:

l The final of the Haith Cup between Middlesbrough or Wolviston and Billingham Synthonia is expected to be played on Sunday, September 3 and the only other competition to be decided is the Junior Plate.

Fosters North East Premier League

Norton managed to total only 106 when they met Gateshead Fell in Division Two. Matthew Brown top scored with 36 and for the Fell Mark Smith claimed five wickets for 19 runs and Lloyd Hunter took three for 15.

Mark Brown then starred with the bat for the Fell and he finished unbeaten on 51 when victory was secured for the loss of three wickets.

Blaydon posted 216 for nine at South Northumberland. Derek King led the way with 101 and Paul McElvanney contributed 40 while for South North Gordon Halliday picked up three for 58 and Michael Smalley took four for 61.

Replying, South North gained a draw when they ended on 155 for eight which included 48 by Ian Kelsall and 38 from Doug Kurn. John O'Neil was the most productive of the Blaydon bowlers claiming three for 27.

Gordon Harrison's 33 was the top scorer in the Benwell Hill total of 167 in their match with Newcastle, which ended in a draw. Steel took three for 27 in the Newcastle attack and responding the home side realised 124 for six and the match finished in a draw. William Allen added 34 and Keith Porter an unbeaten 32 to the Newcastle score.

At Ropery Lane, Chester-le-Street overtook Sunderland's 168 all out, losing one wicket. Man of the match was David Robson who carried his bat for 66. Ian Nairn scored 51 and former first team captain Jim Mathewson carried his bat for 41. When Sunderland batted first and were all out for 168 David Robson captured three for 33 and Alan Bell took three for 28 while for the visitors their top performer with the bat was Simon Brown with 46.
