Nat West Darlington and District League

Aldbrough St John were almost certainly robbed of victory when rain hit their Division A home game with Gilling West.

The visitors slumped to 35 for nine in 19 overs when the rain arrived and Tony Sillars celebrated his 50th birthday taking four for 17 runs in nine overs. Richard Wilson gave admirable support and in ten overs took five for 20.

Games in Division B were less affected by the weather. Cockerton completed their game at Spennymoor where they won by five wickets, overtaking the home team's total of 130 in 37.3 overs thanks mainly to the batting of Mark Leafe whose unbeaten 48 included a six and seven fours. Jim Rowell took four of the five wickets to fall for 55 runs in 18.3 overs.

Batting first, Spennymoor realised 130 with Nick Grainger hitting two sixes and five boundaries in 42 while Mark Nicholson contributed 31 with five fours. Richard Nicholson was in good form for Cockerton and in 15.2 overs took three for 30 while Steve Lethbridge had four for 33 from his 9.2 overs.

Haughton defeated Trimdon CCA by 118 runs. The visitors posted 194 for four as Wilkinson hit a superb 96, Armstrong made a half century and Macguire contributed 37.

Trimdon CCA were all out for just 76 as Edwards returned four for 23 and Wilkinson, Maguire and Gill were also among the wickets.

Middleton-in-Teesdale reached 26 for three from 7.1 overs at Lands before the rain arrived. Robert Saunders took two wickets for 19 runs in 3.1 overs for Lands.

Only one over was possible when Cliff visited Dales and very little of the game went ahead when King James were at home to Heighington who were 37 for four when the match was abandoned.

In Division C, East Cowton defeated Lands by eight wickets when Raw scored 45 and Cowan 31 not out. Cowan was also in good form with the ball when Lands batted first and ended on 111 all out. He took six for 32 while for Lands Wilkinson top scored with 30.

Trimdon Colliery and Deaf Hill overtook the Middleton Tyas score of 74 with six wickets left. Strong set up the victory when he captured seven for 22 runs.

Witton-le-Wear were seven for two against Cliffe in Division D when a halt had to be made while Eryholme were 60 for one against Spennithorne and Harmby but in this match also then only winner was the weather.

Hetton Lyons Sunday League

Boldon romped to a massive 279 for four when they visited South Hetton who were bowled out for 97. Parker (76), Jackson (66), McKenzie (56) and Warriner (30) were all in top scoring form for Boldon and although Shaun Bradbury made 34 and White 20, South Hetton failed to reach three figures agianst Alan Warriner who took seven for 13.

After realising 197 for seven which included 110 not out by Mike Douglas who recorded one six and 14 boundaries, Felling lost by four wickets on their visit to Newcastle. Dave Race claimed three for 62 in 16 overs for Newcastle who were indebted to Richardson for his 49 and to Jamieson, who

finished unbeaten on 53. Mark Vinton took three of the six Newcastle wickets to fall for 38 runs.

Annfield Plain defeated Swalwell by seven wickets when Khan had four for 11 and Burnopfield had 94 runs in hand of visitors South Northumberland. No fewer than 60 of South North's total of 80 came from Brown while for Burnopfield Lawrence Davey had three for nine. Batting first, Burnopfield ended on 174 for six thanks to David Sweeney who contributed 66.

Peter Ruddick (30) and Ian McIntyre (23) led Whickham to 118 while for Consett, Mark Dixon returned outstanding figures of eight for 50 in 17 overs. With Consett total on 81 for thre ethe match had to be abandoned because of rain.

Jeff Workman hammered seven sixes and 15 boundaries in 147 not out and John Manning added 56 in Blaydon's score of 272 for six. Visitors Chesrer-le-Street finished on 132 for eight.

Roseberry Group North East Durham League

Belford House are second in Division One following their nine wickets victory at Littletown who were all out in 38.1 overs for just 96 runs.

Steve Wright took four for 48 in 19 overs and Gary Pickering claimed five for 39 from 13 overs before Phil O'Ware hammered one six and seven fours in an unbeaten 62 as rain threatened a premature end.

Washington were in a good position when they reduced home side North Bitchburn to 78 for seven in 27 overs. John Tither, Paul Birrell and Alan Kitchen shared seven wickets before the match had to be called off.

Belmont suffered a seven wickets defeat at home to Simonside when they were restricted to 167 for nine which included 48 by Ian Steel. Shaun Smith (32) and Chris Yare, who hit an unbeaten 101, earned Simonside a four wickets victory.

Coxhoe had 83 runs to spare at home to Hunwick. Bloomfield top scored with 97 in the Coxhoe total of 200 for eight and he then took five for 47 when Hunwick were restricted to 117 for nine.

East Rainton strengthened their position at the top, defeating Sunderland Hospitals by two wickets. Bennett (30) and Fred Sherriff (33no) led Hospitals to 153 for nine and after Gordon Steel had opened the East Rainton reply making 53, the winners were indebted to Ian Kitching who carried his bat for 22 late in the innings.

East Rainton could not emulate their first team, losing by seven wickets in Division Two. They were all out for 93 in 32 overs when David Laverick took five for 17 in seven overs and Mark Edgell had four for 23 from 15 overs.

Visitors Kibblesworth won by seven wickets but it took them 34 overs to reach the winning margin and they were indebted to Davidson who struck six boundaries in 37 not out.

Medomsley enhanced their promotion prospects with a three wickets victory at Tantobie. Lodge top scored with 60 in the Tantobie total of 136 for eight and for Medomsley, Cunningham, who earlier took three wickets opened the innings and carried his bat for a match-winning 54.

Washington had two runs to spare following an exciting match with Coundon. Fallon was unbeaten on 75 in the Washington total of 145 for eight an in response Coundon were all out for 143 which included 55 by opening batsman Hutchinson.

Beamish defeated Simonside by 63 runs. Bell (75) top performed as Beamish totalled 170 and Simonside were reduced to 107 for nine when Speak claimed five for 35 runs.

Kirtley (69) was the main scorer in Burnhope's 202 for eight and Wearmouth replied with 154.

Darlington Building Society NYSD League

Paul Webster struck a good half century in Blackhall's total of 205 for six when they met Thornaby in Division Two. Slade returned three for 67 in the Thornaby attack and the visitors replied twith 141 for eight which included 31 by Kirton and 30 from Allen. Young picked up three for 34 for Blackhall.

Youll with five wickets for 16, steered Redcar to a five wickets victory at home to Normanby Hall who were all out for 84. Lazenby then top scored with 30 in Redcar's match winning reply of 86 for five.

Saltburn lost half their wickets with 59 on the board, three of them to Radford for 29 when rain washed out their game at Bishop Auckland.

In Division Three on Saturday, Stokesley drew with Yarm after posting 180 for seven which included 32 by Wrightson and 34 not out from Swithenbank. Cardwell claimed three for 21 for Yarm who were 134 for eight at the close which included 34 by Wrigall and 39 not out from Pinder. Crossley took four for 37 and Cook three for 21 for Stokesley.

In Sunday's Division Three programme, Seaton Carew defeated Barnard Castle by 65 runs. Batting first Seaton Carew totalled 199 for nine of which Robinson contributed 59 and Watt 36 while for Barnard Castle Ian Dent claimed three for 35.

Despite 36 by Mark Hedley, Barnard Castle were all out for 134 with Watt taking six for 23.

Graeme Lambton (36) and Ben Walker (34) enabled Marske to total 157 with Wise and Les Cook both taking four for Stokesley who went on to win by five wickets when Johnson carried his bat for 81 and Crossley scored 38.

Matthew Cooper turned in a magnificent bowling performance for Middlesbrough when he captured nine for 39 at home to Northallerton who were all out for 70. Middlesborough won by eight wickets when Andrew Smith contributed 39.

Blackhall had 85 runs to spare at home to Darlington RA who were reduced to 55 all out when Norman Young returned six for 25 in 11.1 overs and Anthony Grey had four for 26 from 11 oversn in a Division Four game. Blackhall set a target of 140 which included 35 by Steven Crane. Ron Derbyshire picked up three for 42 in nine overs and Carroll had four for 40 from 13 overs in the RA attack
