POLICE are concerned for the safety of a missing Durham City pensioner who suffers from Alzheimer's disease.

George Alexander Harding, 83, was last seen in the garden of his home in Geoffrey Avenue, Nevilles Cross, at 3pm on Saturday.

Yesterday, it was believed Mr Harding, who is keen on bus travel, may have left the Durham City area.

Police on foot and a helicopter search of Nevilles Cross failed to find any sign of him.

Inspector Dave Marshall said: "We are very concerned for Mr Harding's wellbeing."

Mr Harding is described as 5ft 10ins, wearing grey trousers and a beige T-shirt.
