THE headmaster of Oxford rejection-row pupil Laura Spence's school has been accused of discriminating against another student.

Dr Paul Kelley, the head of Monkseaton Community High School, spoke out against Oxford University after it turned down Laura.

But Dr Kelley is at the centre of an inquiry into the treatment of Heather Ashburn, 15.

Heather's parents say that their daughter was promised a place at the school by North Tyneside education authority. But they think Dr Kelley got in the way after it was found she had special needs.

Alan and Tricia Ashburn, from Whitley Bay, North Tyneside, complained about Dr Kelley after a meeting to discuss their daughter's future. After the meeting, Heather's parents took up an offer of a place at another school.

An internal inquiry at the school said he should apologise for his "arrogant" appearance during the discussion.

A further inquiry by the local authority took place, which Dr Kelley did not attend. It decided Heather had been "treated unfairly". Dr Kelley, who refused to comment on the case, sent his deputy to the meeting.
