A BLIND man and his two-year-old son escaped two attacks by arsonists on his North-East home earlier this week.

Anthony Green had taken his son, Billy, to stay with family when the attacks happened within hours of each other at their flat on the Closes Estate, Redcar, Teesside.

Mr Green believes the attacks, which have left him homeless, were part of a campaign targeting his home. In recent weeks, three windows had been smashed.

He said: "I was absolutely shocked, devastated."

Mr Green and his son are now living with family, while residents have called for urgent action to stop further attacks from taking place.

Hours after the first attack, petrol was used to set the flat, part of a block of eight, alight for a second time.

The father and son lost all of their clothes and furniture in the fires.

Redcar and Cleveland councillor Glynis Abbott said: "I think it's absolutely disgusting, he could have been killed."

Anybody who has any information about the attacks should call Cleveland Police on (01642) 326326.
