A TEESSIDE council has turned down an application to turn a shop and a house into flats.

Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council received 200 letters of objection from residents near the premises at Borough Road, Redcar.

After visiting the site, members of the council's planning committee decided to reject the proposal.

The plan was for two apartments on the ground and first floors, each with two bedrooms, a bathroom, lounge and kitchen.

Chairman of the planning committee, Councillor Helen McLuckie, said the application went against the local plan.

She said: "The committee felt it is not the type of accommodation for that particular area. We took on board what the objectors were saying."

Objector Ted Broomhead said residents were delighted with the council's decision
