POLICE last night named a woman killed by a speeding van in Newcastle as 35-year-old Angela Armstrong.
A post-mortem examination yesterday confirmed Ms Armstrong died from severe head injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle.
A man arrested on suspicion of murder was being questioned by officers on Tyneside last night.
Ms Armstrong was struck at 2.30pm, on Monday, as she walked along Pottery Bank, near the junction of Windhill Road, Walker. She lived in Pottery Bank.
Yesterday, detectives issued an appeal for information on a white Maestro van which was daubed in yellow paint and had a broken passenger side window.
A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "Officers want to speak to anyone who saw the van being driven in the Pottery Bank area before the collision, where it has been described as being driven in an erratic and dangerous manner."
The van was later dumped in Byker. Police also want to hear from anyone who saw the van being damaged during the weekend.
Anyone with information should call Newcastle East CID on 0191-214 6555.
