SOLICTORS Kelsey and Mark Clayton are heading north of the border after winning a trip on the Orient Express.

The couple, from Darlington, have scooped the top prize in a competition to mark the 175th anniversary of the Stockton and Darlington Railway.

Their choice of destination is Scotland, where they will be spending a romantic weekend sipping champagne on board the luxury train.

Kelsey, 34, who works for Durham County Council, entered the competition with her 34-year-old husband during a visit to the anniversary festival at Darlington Railway Centre and Museum in North Road.

Visitors were asked a series of questions based on the history of railways in the North-East, and participants were required to search for clues hidden around the museum.

Kelsey said: "We just forgot about it really. It was a spur of the moment thing to enter and we never expected to win but we are absolutely delighted about the trip."

The final question managed to bamboozle all but five of entrants. It asked: "This is a special year for the Museum. Half 'aged' to find out chemically which anniversary we are celebrating!" The Museum is celebrating its 25th anniversary - its Silver Jubilee, and the chemical symbol for silver is Ag which is also half of "aged".

And the last time Darlingtonian Mark visited the museum was when he was a schoolboy 25 years ago.

l From mid-November the museum is organising eight sessions of painting, printing, stories and claywork for children aged under five. The sessions are free but must be booked in advance. Children will come away from them having learned about Darlington's railway heritage and having got covered in paint! Call Janine Taylor on (01325) 460532 for more information
