Harrogate and District League

Harrogate Squash have have taken over as top dogs in Division One following a 2-1 victory over their main rivals Moortown.

Before the match both sides were level on 35 points at the top of the table with nothing to separate them.

But wins for Harrogate's Tony Nowakowski and Simon Myring clinched the key battle against their doughty rivals.

This was Moortown's first setback of the season. Harrogate are now ahead with 44, Moortown in second place with 40 points.

The clash featured a father and son combination for Harrogate. Adam Nowakowski, who is only 13 and his North Yorkshire police officer father Tony both appeared in the same match. Although Adam continues to make steady progress he found the experienced warhorse Graham Snowden too much for him in the latest clash.

Scores. Moortown 1 Harrogate Squash 2 (Moortown names first): Phil Davies lost to Tony Nowakowski 9-5, 3-9, 5-9, 9-7, 1-9; David Lines lost to Simon Myring 0-9, 5-9, 5-9; Graham Snowden beat Adam Nowakowski 9-5, 9-6, 9-5.

Hill was Collingham's only winner. Harrogate's Simon Myring defeated Nick Brown 9-0, 9-5, 7-9, 10-8 while Myring's colleague Ross Knellor eventually toppled Anthony Kettlewell 6-9, 5-9, 9-6, 9-0, 10-8 in a fascinating battle.

Nomads, the current title holders, are now mid-table following their 3-0 home defeat by Headingley, thanks to wins by Mark Ambler, Steve Glynn and Ian Buxton. But they bounced back with a 3-0 away win at Collingham, Cameron McMaster, Richard Leonard and Jonathan Round taking the hat trick of victories.
