A £52,000 facelift is to start at Mill House Leisure Centre, in Raby Road, Hartlepool, which means parts of the building will be closed at different times next month.
The swimming pool will be out of action from December 2 to 15, re-opening to the public at 10am on December 16.
Other facilities, including the main hall, fitness suite, squash courts and health suite, will be shut from December 4 to 7.
Improvements include replacing the swimming pool changing room cubicles, providing better access for families and the disabled, repairing the squash courts, and repairing the water slide supports.
