A FAMILY who successfully stopped smoking are hoping to inspire other people to kick the habit.

Pam and David Spooner volunteered to take part in a University of Teesside video project to encourage pregnant young women to give up smoking.

Pam gave up smoking 18 months ago when she found out she was pregnant with their daughter, Hannah, and she hopes her experiences will help others.

She said yesterday: "I didn't think of stopping until I was pregnant, but David had stopped and I knew that I had to for my baby's sake.

"You have to really want to do it, but I hope I can show people that it is possible to stop."

Pam, of Yarm, is one of a number of women, aged between 16 and 24, who were invited to tell their stories of quitting the weed in a video that is being produced by the university's school of health and the Teesside Health Action Zone.

The project's organisers hope that young pregnant smokers in Teesside who will be shown the video will follow the advice of those who have been in a similar position
