LOCAL Government Minister Hilary Armstrong will unveil a memorial plaque in Crook dedicated to the victims of the Holocaust.
Wear Valley District Council has organised the event to mark the first National Holocaust Memorial Day.
The ceremony will include a short service by the Reverend Lyn Hallett, vicar of St Catherine's Church, Crook. A memorial tree will also be planted.
Council leader Olive Brown and council chairwoman Anne Newton will make speeches, and there will be music provided by Stanhope Silver Band.
Mari Macdonald, from Wear Valley council's leisure and marketing team, said: "It's not only to mark the Holocaust, but for anyone who has suffered because of their race or creed, such as in Bosnia.
"There will be an opportunity during the service for people to lay roses in memory of a loved one or a particular event.
"It is to ensure the Holocaust is not forgotten and to learn lessons for the future."
The national memorial day is next Saturday, but the ceremony will take place on the green outside the Civic Centre at 11am on Friday
