FRUSTRATED passengers - who saw their last bus disappearing into the distance just as a train was arriving - have won a change in timetables.

Parish council chairman Shirley Fawcett took her fight to the bus company boss in Harrogate and has hailed their decision to delay the bus by 15 minutes.

The 10.11pm train from York to Harrogate arrives at 10.45pm. But that was just as the last bus from Harrogate bus station was leaving Weth-erby, with stops en route at Follifoot and Spofforth.

Councillor Fawcett, who heads Spofforth Parish Council, said a decision to delay the last bus for Wetherby had ended the frustration for passengers seeing the bus pass the front door of the railway station just as the train was arriving. It has also saved them more than £10 for a taxi to the village.

Coun Fawcett said: "I want to place on record my thanks to the Harrogate and District Travel company for taking on board the comments and acting on them.

"I have seen the last bus vanishing myself and know how passengers feel when things like this happen," she said.

Ian Catlow, operations manager for the bus company, said: "We do try to listen to our customers when they make points like this. It is not always easy to achieve instant results because we have to change timetables and that can take some time."
