HIT cartoon series The Lampies has been given a second series.

BBC bosses have commissioned a further 26 episodes of the cartoon following its overwhelming success with the junior audience.

Securing the second series is expected to enable further expansion for Red Balloo, the Newcastle-based production company behind The Lampies.

The first series has already sold to 31 countries worlwide and the two series together are expected to attract the interest of other international TV networks.

Kidz Bizz Ltd is the latest firm to team up with Red Balloo. The Surrey-based toy manufacturer will produce a range of merchandise to complement beanies, action figures, playsets and jigsaws already under licence with toy company Worlds Apart. Kidz Bizz is offering a range of tools for painting and drawing, photo albums and glitter kits.

James Coldwell, director of Red Balloo, said: "The Lampies has been hugely popular since it first went on air and having the second series commissioned only half way through screening of the first demonstrates this success.

"Having signed agreements with clothes, toys, soft furnishings and food manufacturers, fans can be sure that a wide merchandise range will be available."
