Camerons Teesside League

ACKLAM Steelworks reached the semi-finals of the R T Raine Trophy with a 6-0 win over hosts New Marske Sports Club.

Alan Oliver scored the opener for Acklam after 15 minutes, five minutes after New Marske created the first good chance of the game but Martin Balls in the Acklam goal made a good save, with Simon Shaw putting the rebound over the bar.

Ten minutes later Acklam made it 2-0 when Micky Ward scored his first for the club.

The home side's hopes of getting back into the match were dealt a bitter blow a minute into the second half when Paul Burns added a third with his second of the season. Four minutes later Oliver, with his second of the match, put the game out of reach of the home side.

In atrocious conditions both sets of players adapted well but Acklam were in total control and added a further goal from Ward in the 70th minute and Oliver who completed his hat-trick ten minutes from time with his 11th of the season.

They will meet the winners of the Nunthorpe Athletic and Bedale Athletic match, a game postponed because of frost despite being switched to Bedale because of the state of the Nunthorpe pitch.

The tie between Wolviston Reserves and Fishburn Park was alos postponed.

Cargo Fleet, although taking the lead, had to come back from behind to share the points with Thornaby in a 2-2 draw.

Again the match was played in atrocious conditions with both sets of players having difficulty in controlling the ball in the wind and driving rain.

Cargo Fleet struck in the 14th minute when a good move involving Mark Wilson, who played a good ball out to the wing, for Michael Stevenson to run on to and cross for Ray Teasdale to score his 15th of the season. Visitors Thornaby struck back and made it 1-1 when Robert Shaw scored his sixth of the season in the 30th minute.

In the second-half the match was very even and on the hour Thornaby were given a dubious free kick but Marty Moore made most of the opportunity, firing into the top corner of the net giving the home keeper no chance. The Fleet fought back and in the 80th minute their efforts were rewarded when John Patterson popped up to secure a point with his fourth of the season.

Hollybush United, trailing by three goals at the interval, hit back to earn a 5-3 win over Guisborough Town Reserves.

And the strong wind, and driving rain, was a crucial factor in the outcome.

Visitors Guisborough took a 3-0 lead into half time with a third of the season from Rob Walton in the 20th minute and a brace by Liam Thompson in the 35th and 40th minute.

In the second half the home side had the advantage and Nicky Ward made it 3-1 in the first minute of the second half. Johnny May added a second after 55 minutes with Paul Gettings levelling on the hour. Johnny May gave Hollybush the lead for the first time after 63 minutes and Ian Crawford, with his first of the season, sealed a remarkable comeback.

The Stokesley SC and Mackinlay Park game was abandoned after 15 minutes, no goals scored, while the matches between Thornaby YC and Richmond Town and Whitby Town Reserves and BEADS were both postponed.

Albany Northern League side Northallerton Town's were able to stage their North Riding Senior Cup match against the league's last representatives Carlin How who suffered a 3-1 defeat.

David Lawson gave the home side the lead on a very heavy pitch in hard driving rain. Carlin How equalised in the 12th minute when Martin Say set Steve Hampton away and he crossed for Jason Draper.

The visitors adapted better to the conditions but were thwarted by the outstanding display of former Richmond Town keeper Darren Poole who revelled in the conditions. In the second-half again Carlin How were the better side but failed to take their chances, or thwarted by Poole, and in the 65th minute the home side broke away and took the lead. The visitors threw caution to the wind but the home side again brokeaway and made the game safe with a third goal five minutes before the final whistle.

The Northern Echo Sunday Invitation League

IDivision One leaders Coundon Miners Arms maintained their 100 per cent record with a hard earned 4-0 victory over champions East End WMC. East End had the better of the first half but Coundon took control in the second. The score was goalless until the 73rd minute when Rob Mazur scored his and Coundon's first. Five minutes later Darren Wilson scored direct from a corner to make it 2-0. Mazur scored Coundon's third and completed his hat-trick by finishing off a brilliant move which saw Curt Warburton take the ball from his own penalty area, beat six men and then laid the ball off for Mazur who beat one defender before chipping the advancing keeper.

Once again the Jack Horners managed to beat the weather conditions although they probably wished they hadn't as they lost 5-2 to Spraire. Jacks played 80 minutes of the game with only ten men after having a man sent off. Spraire soon capitalised on this and were soon 2-0 up. William Tutty pulled one back for the Jacks after 40 minutes. Spraire made it 3-1 on the hour before Michael Travers pulled another goal back for the Jacks. Spraire added a further two goals late in the game to make the final score 5-2. Scorers for Spraire were Richard Hindle (2), Chris Falconer (2) and Danny Richmond.

In Division Three leaders Shuttle and Loom beat third placed AFC Orange 3-1. The Shuttle led 3-0 at half time through Gary Hutchinson and Barry Roper (2). Orange came into the game in the second half and managed a consolation just before the final whistle when Jimmy Moore scored a penalty.

All Division Two games were postponed
