QUAKERS go into their last game of a miserable season tomorrow on the back of a run of five straight defeats.

And the vast majority of Feethams fans hope the home clash with promotion-chasing Blackpool will be hapless manager Gary Bennett's last match in charge.

Bennett's ritual excuse that his side were unlucky was trotted out again after two defeats this week, but he still appears to have the confidence of the man who matters - millionaire club owner George Reynolds.

The Tangerines will have 2,000 fans at Feethams and their upbeat mood will be in marked contrast to the home supporters.

They have seen Bennett try more than 40 players this season and still be as far away from a decent team as he was at the start of term.

On Tuesday night, Darlington went down 3-2 at Mansfield Town. David Brightwell deflected a cross into his own net to give the Stags the lead, but then John Williams was pushed in the box and Brian Atkinson converted the penalty.

The Stags were ahead again before the interval when Robbie Hassell's shot was deflected in. It was 3-1 just after the break when Liam Lawrence volleyed home, but substitute Glenn Naylor scored his 11th league goal of the season to give Quakers hope.

Clint Marcelle fluffed a great chance to equalise, while Olivier Bernard's late shot grazed a post.

On Saturday, Quakers lost 1-0 at lowly Halifax Town in another sub-standard performance.

Craig Middleton scored the second-half winner for the Shaymen, his shot being deflected past a stranded Andy Collett. Quakers squandered a hatful of second-half chances, but the most embarrassing miss was by Halifax substitute Robbie Painter, the former Feethams favourite, who fell over the ball two yards out when an open goal beckoned.

Tomorrow's match is not all-ticket for Darlington fans. Visiting supporters have been given the South Terrace.
