AN event will be held next month to encourage people to take an interest in fostering.
The free information evening will be held at Gateshead Civic Centre on Monday, June 4, from 7pm.
It will be the last in a series of events held by Gateshead Borough Council aimed at getting more people involved in adoption or long-term fostering.
The council is trying to get rid of the myth that it is hard to become a foster parent because of strict criteria red tape.
Councillor Linda Green, cabinet member for children and young people, said: "Gateshead council believes that it can help most suitable people through the fostering process and does not put unnecessary obstacles in the way.
"I would urge as many local people as possible to come to our information event in June, to find out what a rewarding experience fostering can be."
