A BIKE-RIDING thief rode off empty-handed after his victim refused to let go of her handbag.
The woman was walking along Hollyhurst Road, in Darlington, with a friend when her attacker came up behind her on a BMX bike.
The cyclist, aged about 12 or 13, grabbed the woman's handbag, but his victim was unwilling to give it up.
PC Peter Eddy, of Darlington police, said: "He had a bit tug and pull with her and she managed to hold on to it."
The youth rode off in the direction of Willow Road, after the attack at about 1pm on Tuesday.
The young thief was with two other youngsters. He had short-cropped ginger hair, was of slight build, and wore a light coloured top.
