MAY Day celebrations went with a swing as the sun drew the crowds to a Bank Holiday festival in Seaham.

Deneside Park was the venue for the annual May Day Festival, which featured entertainment to suit all the family.

Among the events were a traditional Punch and Judy show, Mr Windbags the clown, the Durham Rams Morris Dancers, balloon modelling, Parkside Disco Dancers and, fittingly, may pole dancing with youngsters from Deneside Junior School.

The event was organised by Seaham Town Council's parks department, which took the opportunity to showcase the skills of its staff with demonstrations of planting hanging baskets and window boxes for the green-fingered enthusiasts among the festival-goers.

There were also prizes up for grabs and slices of cake to be won at the teddy bears' picnic for the younger visitors and their dressed-up bears.
