Tony Blair and William Hague clashed in the Commons today in their only face-to-face battle before the General Election.

The final Prime Minister's Questions was a ferocious encounter, with all three party leaders trying to score vital points.

Mr Blair has refused to take part in a televised debate so it will be the only time voters will get to see the leaders fighting it out on the same platform.

Both the Prime Minister and Mr Hague have spent the first full day of campaigning in London.

Mr Blair issued a rallying call to more than 200 MPs at a meeting of the Parliamentary Labour Party.

Mr Hague and Tory chairman Michael Ancram launched a new poster campaign in Battersea Park, south London.

But Liberal Democrat leader Charles Kennedy kicked off his whirlwind tour of 11 cities in three days.

He flew to Norwich, Birmingham and Bristol today before returning to London to unveil a new poster onslaught.
