NEWS that a North-East champion has won his third world kick-boxing title has been reported around the world.

Craig Richardson, 16, of Lanchester in County Durham took the International Kick-boxing Federation title at Stanley Civic Centre.

His points victory over Portuguese teenager Bruno Susano makes him the undisputed champion of the world.

The news of the victory has been reported on a USA Internet site and reportedly picked up around the world.

Other County Durham junior stars, including several girls, also won at the sell-out event attended by more than 300 people including leader of Derwentside District Council Alex Watson.

Craig won the fight by unanimous decision. World President of the IKF Steve Fossum described it as "one of the greatest bouts ever seen."

Craig's trainer, Goff Bates, who organised the event, said it was a great night and stressed the potential of other fighters on his books, including his son Jamie, 11 and Gavin Graham, 15, who both won their fights.
