MORE than 60 children have been given a lesson in how to build a supermarket.
The children, from Bowburn Junior School, near Durham City, were shown around the building site of the new Tesco, in Dragonville Lane.
They learned about aspects of construction and retailing from staff of Tesco and construction company Taylor Woodrow.
The visit was part of the school's ongoing Working Together Partnership project with the supermarket chain.
While on site, the children had the chance to create their own online store, and the illustrations will go on display when the store opens in August.
Richard Petrie, Tesco's corporate affairs manager, said: "We are very proud to help the school with its Working Together Partnership.
"The site visit was very successful and the children really enjoyed themselves and showed a keen interest in all the information we gave them."
Lynne Lyons, headteacher, said: "Tesco and Taylor Woodrow have worked very closely with the school to develop an interesting programme of learning, and we look forward to a continued relationship that will benefit school and community."
