ABOUT 200 young musicians head for a North-East concert hall next week for a big performance.

The Promenade for Youth concert will be held at the Dolphin Centre, Darlington, at 7pm on Friday, May 18. It has been sponsored by Cummins and organised by the Darlington and County Durham Music Support Services, in association with Music for Darlington.

This year's concert features the Durham First Orchestra combining with the Durham District Orchestra. Joining them will be the Darlington Folk Fiddler Group and the North Face barber shop quartet. Soloists Rebecca Topping, who won the pianoforte section of the Darlington and Northallerton Rotary Young Musician of the Year, and Eleanor Firth, who was runner-up in the Young Soprano competition complete the line-up.

Tickets for Promenade for Youth, and Last Night of the Proms the following evening, are available from the Dolphin Centre and the Darlington branch of Williams the Music People.
