A street trader is taking his campaign to sell fruit in pounds and ounces to court.
Peter Collins, 51, of Sutton, Surrey, is claiming that his local authority is infringing his human rights by forcing him to trade in metric measurements.
The move comes after Steve Thoburn, 36, a greengrocer from Sunderland, was convicted under the Weights and Measures Act for refusing to convert his scales.
Mr Collins was appealing in a civil case at Sutton Magistrates' Court yesterday to have a condition that he must trade in metric measures lifted.
Quinton Richards outlined Mr Collins' case that his freedom of expression, protected by Article ten of the European Convention of Human Rights, was being compromised.
A three-day trial was fixed to start on July 9.
Mr Collins, a street trader for 25 years, did not attend the hearing.
