THE people of Thirsk were given reason to celebrate this week as the recipients of two Government cash windfalls.
The town is to receive up to £1m from the £100m market town regeneration programme over the next four years.
Additionally, the town is to receive £60,000 from English Heritage over three years. This cash is for a scheme to target the rejuvenation of yards and 'backland' buildings.
Mayor Freda Roberts said: "It's wonderful news for Thirsk. The money's for the whole area around Thirsk and everybody in it."
"We want to do things that will enhance the town to attract people to come here for work and shopping."
