DARREN Smith from Thornaby was in tremendous form at the Stainsby Grange junior championships where he scored a double win.

He partnered Flyaway Peter, a double winner the previous weekend, to take the national 138cm qualifier ahead of Paul Sims on Blonde Bombshell and Mill Road Rusty.

He then went on to win the Squibb & Davies national foxhunter qualifier with the nine-year-old mare Lady Millenium, which was ridden in last year's newcomers Wembley finals by Sarah Russell from Thirsk.

Sarah Cana from Whitby won the strongly-contested members cup ahead of Haswell's Carla Bowlam on Phoenix Inquisitive and last year's champion Emma Denton riding Stainsby Hotspot.

Sarah was also third in the festival 1.15m qualifier behind Anna Strawson on Mittenhill Classic and Peterlee's Sarah Martin with Zeemax.

James Reveley gained 50 points, achieving a double clear in the national 128cm qualifier on Stainsby Starburst and a good second riding his grandmother Mary Reveley's Cappagh Misty.

Nicky Pow from Gateshead took the Blue Chip newcomers on Bowes Ice Maiden ahead of Kirsty Porter with A Patch of Colour and Paul Sims riding Kiltown lad.

The British novice was won by Jessica Snape on Ashby Diamond ahead of Whitby's Emma Jowsey riding the 13-year-old gelding Oaklands Dunrobin.
